The condition
What skin tags are
Small, soft, harmless growths of skin that hang from a thin stalk. They are extremely common, tend to appear where skin rubs against skin or clothing, the neck, underarms, eyelids and groin are typical, and become more common with age and in pregnancy. They are not a health risk, though many people choose to have them removed for comfort or appearance.
The technology
How thermocoagulation treats a skin tag
The same low-energy, needle-free approach used across every condition treated by thermocoagulation.
- The probe is placed at the base
- An ultra-thin, single-use probe is positioned at the stalk where the tag meets the skin.
- A regulated microburst of energy
- A brief, low-energy pulse seals the vessels supplying the tag, causing it to dry and separate over the following days.
- Walk-in, walk-out
- No bandages or dressings are usually needed. Most people return to normal activities immediately.

Common questions
Is skin tag removal painful?
Most people feel a brief hot pinprick as the base of the tag is treated, rather than ongoing pain. Anaesthetic is not usually needed for small tags.
Will it leave a scar?
Thermocoagulation treats the base of the tag precisely, which keeps the risk of scarring low. As with any skin treatment, individual healing varies, and this is discussed at your consultation.
How many skin tags can be treated in one session?
Several small tags can often be treated in a single 5, 15 or 30 minute session, depending on their number and size. Kim will confirm this at your consultation.
Do skin tags come back after treatment?
A tag that has been fully treated does not return. Skin tags are common and new ones can appear elsewhere over time, unrelated to any that have been treated.
