How it works
How your treatment works
You're assessed, and together you'll agree a plan, with Kim carrying it through from there. Medication, where it's appropriate, sits inside that plan rather than being the whole of it.
Nothing is sold in packages and there is no advance commitment. You'll be advised the full expected cost before you begin, and Kim will explain honestly if she doesn't think this is right for you.
The medication
How the medicines work
Two classes of medicine are used in weight management, and one substance from each is in common use. They are described here by how they act and what they ask of you. Whether either is right for you, and which, is decided at your assessment.
NHS information on weight loss medicines- GLP-1 receptor agonists
- GLP-1 is a hormone your gut releases when you eat. Medicines in this class copy it. They slow how quickly the stomach empties and quieten the appetite signal, so people feel full sooner and think about food less.
- Semaglutide
- The GLP-1 receptor agonist in common use. It was developed for type 2 diabetes and also acts on appetite. Given as a once-weekly injection, started low and increased in steps so the body adjusts.
Nausea, constipation, diarrhoea and reflux are common, usually early on or after a dose increase. Less often it can cause gallbladder problems or inflammation of the pancreas. It is not used in pregnancy or while breastfeeding, nor where there is a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer. NHS guidance on semaglutide. - Dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonists
- A newer class that acts on a second gut hormone, GIP, alongside GLP-1. Engaging both pathways affects appetite and how the body stores and uses fat.
- Tirzepatide
- The substance in that newer class, and also a once-weekly injection built up in steps. Acting on two pathways rather than one does not make it the right choice for everyone. Suitability depends on your history, what else you take and how you tolerate it.
Its side effects are broadly those of semaglutide: nausea, constipation, diarrhoea and reflux commonly, and gallbladder or pancreas problems rarely. The same cautions apply in pregnancy and where there is a history of medullary thyroid cancer. NHS guidance on tirzepatide. - What they ask of you
- Neither replaces eating differently. They make eating less much easier, which is the point, but muscle is lost alongside fat where protein and activity are neglected. Your plan covers both, and this is covered again at your consultation.
- When you stop
- Appetite generally returns towards where it was, and weight can return with it. That is how the medicines work rather than a personal failing, and how you come off is discussed with you in advance.
- Which one is right for you
- Decided at your assessment, with your full history in front of Kim, and named and talked through with you at that appointment.

Before you decide
Common questions
What happens at the first appointment?
A 30 to 45 minute clinical assessment. Kim takes a full medical history, reviews everything you currently take, asks about your relationship with food and your mental health, and measures what needs measuring. You leave with a plan and an expected cost, whether or not medication forms part of it.
Will I be prescribed medication?
Only where it is clinically appropriate for you. Some people are assessed and advised that medication is not suitable, or not yet. Your treatment continues either way — the assessment and the plan are what it's built on, and Kim is on hand for advice as you go.
Which medication would I be given?
That is decided at your consultation, once Kim knows your history, and it is discussed with you by name at that point. Prescription-only medicines cannot lawfully be advertised to the public, which is why this page describes how the two classes of medicine work rather than naming products.
How is the medication supplied?
Through a GPhC-registered UK pharmacy partner, dispensed to a United Kingdom address.
Why do you assess mental health?
Appetite, mood and eating are closely connected, and some of these medicines require care where there is a history of certain conditions. Asking is part of prescribing safely, and what you say is treated in confidence.
Will I have to attend a review every month?
No. Kim is on hand for advice whenever you need her — by message or email, with a video call when it's useful — rather than a fixed monthly commitment. Check-ins are agreed with you at your consultation, and prescribing depends on staying in touch, not on a set schedule.
Is this available in Marbella?
No. The medication is dispensed by a United Kingdom pharmacy that does not ship to Spain, so this runs in London and online, within the United Kingdom only. Kim can see you by video wherever you are, but the medicine has to reach a UK address.
