What a peptide is
A short chain of amino acids
Peptides are small chains of amino acids — shorter than a protein, longer than a single building block. Some occur naturally in the body; others are synthesised to copy or adapt a natural one.
That range means very different things sit under the same word. Some peptide-based medicines are already licensed and prescribed every day — the GLP-1 medicines used in medical weight management are peptides. Others are still being studied, or are not licensed for the use people are most interested in.
This page covers three specifically, because they come up often and because Kim wants to be upfront about where each one currently stands, rather than silent until she can offer it.

Can I have any of these treatments now?
No. None of these are currently licensed for prescribing in the UK. This page exists so you can read about them, and register your interest for when that changes — not to offer them today.
Why does a prescriber have a page about medicines she can't prescribe?
Because it's honest about where things stand, and it means you'll hear from us if and when a medicine is approved, rather than us starting from nothing. Kim already prescribes other GLP-1 medicines that are licensed — see medical weight management.
Where can I get up-to-date information on UK licensing?
The MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) publishes licensing decisions. We update this page as things change, but the MHRA is the authoritative source.
