For practices whose clinicians do not hold prescribing authority. Kim Armstrong attends your clinic, conducts the consultations your team cannot complete, and prescribes for your patients where it is clinically appropriate to do so.
The arrangement
Prescribing authority, without recruiting for it
Where a practitioner is not an Independent Prescriber, the consultation can proceed only so far. If the right course of care requires a prescription, the patient must be sent elsewhere.
Kim Armstrong attends your practice by arrangement, sees the patients you have booked, and takes each consultation to its proper conclusion. Where a prescription is appropriate, she issues it and arranges its fulfilment.
You may verify the Independent Prescriber annotation on the public register at any time.
What the arrangement provides
A visiting prescriber is not an outsourcing of your care. It is the addition of one qualification your team does not presently hold, applied to the patients you have already assessed.
Attendance at your clinic
Sessions are held on your premises, with your patients, on dates settled in advance.
The consultation, completed
History, assessment and medication review, conducted in full and recorded properly.
A prescription where appropriate
Issued under Kim's own registration, with fulfilment through a registered pharmacy partner.
A considered refusal where not
An Independent Prescriber assesses suitability first. Your patients are told what she finds, and so are you.

Professional standing
Where responsibility sits
An arrangement of this kind works only where each party is clear about what it is accountable for, and a practice is right to establish that before it proceeds.
The assessment and the prescribing decision belong to Kim, under her own registration, and she is answerable for them to the Nursing and Midwifery Council. That accountability travels with the decision and cannot be transferred to the practice that arranged the session.
Everything else remains yours. Your patients are your patients, your records are your records, and the treatment is delivered by your own clinicians under your own governance and insurance. The arrangement adds a prescriber to your clinic for a session. It does not alter the obligations you already hold.

Terms are settled with each practice rather than published, because they depend on the length of the session, the distance travelled and how regularly you require attendance.

Common questions
Which practices is this intended for?
Clinics and aesthetic practices whose clinicians are not Independent Prescribers, and who therefore cannot complete a consultation that ends in a prescription. The arrangement supplies the prescribing authority the practice does not hold, without the practice recruiting for it.
Does Kim attend our premises?
Yes. Sessions are held at your practice, with your patients, on dates agreed in advance. Remote consultations can be arranged where they are clinically appropriate for what you are asking.
Who holds clinical responsibility for the prescription?
Kim does. An Independent Prescriber takes full clinical and professional responsibility for the assessment and for the prescribing decision, and is personally accountable for it to the Nursing and Midwifery Council. That responsibility cannot be delegated to the practice.
May our own clinician continue to treat the patient?
Yes. The patient remains yours throughout, and your clinician continues to deliver the treatment. What is provided is the consultation and the prescribing decision that your team is not registered to make.
How is a session arranged?
Begin with an enquiry describing your practice, the treatments concerned and the volume you anticipate. A conversation follows to establish whether the arrangement is appropriate, and dates and terms are agreed from there.
Is there a minimum booking?
Time is arranged in sessions rather than by the individual patient, so that a full clinic list can be seen in one visit. The length of a session is agreed with each practice.
How is medication supplied to our patients?
Where a prescription is issued, it is fulfilled through a registered pharmacy partner and dispensed to a United Kingdom address.
Will every patient we book receive a prescription?
No. A prescription is issued only where it is clinically appropriate and safe for that patient. Where it is not, the patient is told why, and your practice receives the same explanation.

Search the Nursing and Midwifery Council register. The Independent Prescriber annotation appears on the public record, and the link is provided above.
