What it is
A medicine that acts on three hormone pathways
Retatrutide is being studied as a treatment for weight management. Where the GLP-1 medicines already used in medical weight management act on one gut hormone pathway, and the newer dual medicines act on two, retatrutide is designed to act on three — GLP-1, GIP and glucagon receptors together.
It is currently in late-stage (Phase 3) clinical trials rather than approved for prescribing. That is further along than many peptides discussed on this site, but trial results and regulatory approval are two separate hurdles, and neither has been cleared yet in the UK.

Common questions
Is retatrutide available to prescribe?
No. It has not received UK regulatory approval, so it cannot lawfully be prescribed here or anywhere else yet. It is further through the approval process than many other unlicensed peptides, but that is not the same as being licensed.
How is this different from the medicines Kim already prescribes for weight management?
Kim's medical weight management service already uses licensed GLP-1 medicines, prescribed after a full assessment. Retatrutide acts on additional hormone pathways beyond a standard GLP-1 medicine, and remains in clinical trials rather than approved for prescribing.
When might this become available?
